How One District Addressed Studying Loss


Hoover Metropolis Faculties in Alabama pivoted rapidly to fulfill the pandemic’s learning challenges


The pandemic upended the lives of everyone across the globe and greatly affected the way in which students and educators interacted with one another. Dodson continues to have a forward-wanting strategy to schooling. He demonstrated that earlier in his career by embracing expertise within the classrooms and later by adopting online presentation models, comparable to Zoom and Google Meet, before the pandemic. As an educator whose background is in science, Dodson has an interest in knowledge analytics. Therefore, it comes as no shock that he readily embraced analytics to create formative assessments to help his group determine areas of concern, most notably a dip in math scores.


STEM programs are often difficult for some college students, even with face-to-face interaction. Arithmetic, in particular, is a difficult subject and one that doesn't necessarily translate nicely for a web-based medium. Dodson and his team centered on this space, working to keep students on grade stage and reducing the number who want intervention. “We are literally a degree or two past where we had been before the pandemic,” he says.


Dodson once more stresses the significance of teamwork and organizational energy: “There was loads of laborious work from teachers behind that,” he says. “I'm very, very, very happy with them.”
